At Virginia Power Kites, we offer instruction to beginner kiteboarders according to PASA methodology. In this camp, you can get certified as a kiteboarder and receive insurance as a kiteboarder by becoming a member of PASA for as low as $50. PASA or the Professional Air Sports Association has internationally recognizable levels of certification (levels 1-3) that will make you a competent rider. Lesson location: Sandbridge, Virginia
This is for intermediate riders who already know how to ride upwind, downwind, toeside, and heelside, but don't have the knowledge yet about how to kitesurf in the waves. The purpose of this lesson is to get you confident with riding in the ocean. The water start in the ocean requires more speed than in flat water conditions, and ocean riding with a surfboard involves more of surf style approach that involves doing some of the tricks surfers do, such as off the lips, cutbacks, and even getting tubed as the waves get larger. We'll discuss the risks involved in kitesurfing in the ocean, such as the dangers of getting caught in rip currents, etcetera, as well as the dangers of kiting in offshore winds that are gusty and unpredictable.
