For light wind kitesurfing (6-18 knots), Virginia Power Kites recommends the 15 meter for the average 175 pound rider. A larger board such as a surfboard would have to be used in the 6-10 knots range.
For moderate winds (15-25 knots) kitesurfing, Virginia Power Kites recommends the 12 meter for the average 175 pound rider. A larger board such as a kitesurfboard would be used in the 12-15 knot range.
For stronger winds (20-30 knots) kitesurfing, Virginia Power Kties recommends the 9 meter kite for the average 175 pound rider.
You can use the 15 meter kite in extremely light winds (4-10 knots) kite landboarding; the 12 meter in light winds (5-15 knots), and the 9 m in moderate winds (10 knots-20 knots).
