For beginner kitesurfers, we give lessons in flat water in the Hampton Roads area at Factory Point, on the back river. This is an ideal location for beginners because the flat water makes it easy to learn to kiteboard, and it is also waist deep in most of the river
Here is the information about Factory Point:

In all lessons, we discuss how to become a safe kiteboarder. You should always kiteboard with a buddy and avoid self-launch and self-landing, although you will learn how to do both in this lesson. You will also learn how to self-rescue and deal with difficult conditions.
To respect the Virginia Beach kiteboarding community and its regulations, you must be able to self-launch, self-land, and self-rescue. You must also make yourself familiar with the rest of the community. Do not practice kiteboarding unless you know self-launch, self-rescue, and go upwind. You must know how to self-land your kite as well.
Safety is an important issue, so you will have to study how to kite safely with others. We conduct all of our lessons away from any other bathers (at least 100 feet away from any bathers) and away from congested areas.
You can learn how to kiteboard with professional instruction:
* spend at least one day learning kite control, kite safety, self-rescue, and body dragging
* learn how to water start
* accelerated learning curve because of one on one, personalized instruction
* learn how to kitesurf both directions
* develop the skills to be confident in the water
* understand the risks of flying kites in overpowered/gusty/stormy/offshore conditions
* learn how to self-launch, self-rescue, and self-land your kite
* learn how to rig a kite
* learn how to repair your kite, including sewing and bladder repair
We will also discuss different styles of kitesurfing and as well as kitesurfing under different wind conditions. This lesson is designed for the beginning kiteboarder. This lesson should last at least 4 hours and is free with the purchase of an HQ Neo II or any of our larger kites.
