About Us

Virginia Power Kites is an online store selling power kites on the East Coast.  We sell inflatable kites such as Eclipse kites, RRD, and Epic kites for riders who are looking for the ultimate experience of kitesurfing on waves. We are a unique store because you will find a wide range of kites to fit your every need, from redesigned C-kites, Delta SLE kites, bow kites, and foil kites. We are an authorized dealer of  HQ kites and sell kitesurfing, landboarding, kite buggying, and snowkiting kites. We are willing to answer any questions customers might have about inflatable and foil kites. We sell closed cell crossover kites for land and water, depower kites, fixed bridle kites, and trainer kites. We have been flying kites since the beginning of the twenty-first century when power kites became more popular. Our school only has PASA (Professional Airsports Association) instructors. PASA is an organization that trains kiteboarding instructors and is officially recognized throughout the world along with IKO (International Kiteboarding Assocation). We certify students as level one, level two, and level 3 kiteboarders according to PASA, and if they obtain PASA membership, they receive liability insurance up to $1,000,000 along with a 20% discount on iKitesurf wind reports and a free subscription to a kiteboarding magazine.

Raphael Comprone

Raphael  is the manager of Virginia Power Kites.Born in Minnesota, Raphael developed an addiction to surfing when he moved to Virginia. Raphael's first present at age 8  in Virginia was a seven foot surfboard. Ever since then, he has been obsessed with wave riding. He has been a surfer in the Virginia Beach area since the late 1970s and has kitesurfed since 2004 when he took the Real Kiteboarding Evolution camp. Over the last few years, he has been kitesurfing in and out of Virginia Beach, Sandbridge, the Chesapeake Bay, Miami, Kite Beach in Florida, and Cape Hatteras. His main concern is safety and making sure that anyone who learns how to kite stays in the water away from any bathers. Raphael's approach to kitesurfing is largely academic as you can see from the Virginia Power Kites test and waiver form. He wants anyone learning the sport of kiteboarding to first master the skill of using small trainer kites before progressing to the use of larger kites. Besides being an avid kitesurfer, he is also a college professor and the author of two books.

Keith Croghan

Keith is a native of northern Michigan, where he first learned to kitesurf.  He has kited in Virginia, Cape Hatteras, the Great Lakes, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Ockacoke, and Costa Rica. His kite philosophy is that we should love and worship the wind- without it life on
earth would stagnate.
